In line with the celebration of Women’s Month, the Examination Services Division (ESD) and Public Assistance and Liaison Division (PALD) have conducted its community service at The Haven for Women and Children in Nasisi, Ligao City on March 26, 2012. the group composed of Marilou Baduria, Lilia Olarte, Nestor Marquez and Eunida Jalmanzar visited the place to spend time with the victims of sexual abuse and exploitation by having short program/games with them and serve snacks after the games.

The Haven for Women and Children is a temporary shelter for young girls 59 years old and below, who are in need of social care and special protection in  order to help them cope with the trauma of the exploitation, unwanted pregnancy and all other forms of abuse.

There were currently thirty-nine (39) clients in the center, eight (8) of which are infants who are two years old and below and thirty-one adults whose age ranges from sixteen to twenty-six years old. Some of them were either found in the street, abandoned in churches or surrendered to them by concerned citizens.

During our visit, we were briefed on the services that they are providing at the center to their clients which include casework, group work, counseling and family therapy sessions which aimed at restoring the women’s social functioning while overcoming the trauma and healing the wounds brought about by the abusive situations of their brutal pasts.

The Center Head is Ms. Cresencia Deri said that they need more volunteers, sponsors and donors to sustain their programs and activities.           #Ms. Marilou L. Baduria,  Acting Chief, ESD
