Atty. David E. Cabanag, Jr., Civil Service Commission Assistant Commissioner led the symposium dubbed as “RACE Towards a Smoke-Free Civil Service: Implementation of CSC MC 17, s. 2009 and Salient Features of Joint CSC and DOH MC 2010-01” in CSC Region 5, on August 29, 2012 at Hotel Venezia, Legazpi City. The said symposium aims to raise awareness on the said MCs and other laws and issuances protecting people from the harmful effects of smoking.
Dir. Cecilia R. Nieto, Director IV of the CSCRO5 welcomed all the participants coming from the different agencies in the region composed of Municipal Mayors, Heads of Agencies, Sangguniang Bayan members, Legal officers, and Human Resource Management Officers. The different Field Office Directors namely: Dir. Maria Guia DV. Garcia of the CSC-Catanduanes Field Office, Dir. Raymundo V. Atendido of the CSC-Albay Field Office, Dir. Arpon U. Lucero of the CSC-Sorsogon Field Office, Dir. Jocelyn L. Marifosque of the CSC-Camarines Sur Field Office and Acting Dir. II Cecilia T. Balmaceda of the CSC-Camarines were also present during the activity.
The first Resource Speaker who discussed the Harmful Effects of Smoking and Smoking Cessation was Dr. Rey J. Millena of the Department of Health, Center for Health Development Bicol (DOH-CHD 5). This was followed by the Presentation of the Legal Framework and discussion of the CSC MC 17, s. 2009 and the Salient Features of Joint DOH and CSC MC 2010-01 by CSC Assistant Commissioner David E Cabanag, Jr. An Open forum followed the presentations. The syposium was also highlighted with the signing of the Covenant of Commitment of all the participating agencies in the region.
